Reuben Smith-Vaughan serves as the director of public policy for Latin America in Amazon’s Washington, DC office, leading the company’s engagement with policymakers across the region.
Smith-Vaughan joined Amazon in December 2017 from the US Chamber of Commerce, where he was senior director of the Americas Department, International Affairs Division. He also served as executive director of the US-Mexico Economic Council (USMXECO), where he led initiatives to both enhance commercial and investment opportunities for US companies in Mexico and strengthen economic growth during the process to modernize NAFTA. In addition, Smith-Vaughan’s portfolio included executive management of the US-Cuba Business Council (USCBC) and the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America & the Caribbean (AACCLA).
Previously, Smith-Vaughan worked for the World Bank, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Spanish Department at American University. Smith-Vaughan is a graduate of American University in Washington, DC, with BAs in international studies and international economics. A native of Nicaragua, he currently resides in Washington, DC with his wife.
