Hernán Larraín served as minister of justice and human rights from 2018 to 2022 and is the former president of the Independent Democratic Union Party as well as the Senate of Chile.
Larraín was elected to the Senate representing the Maule Region in 1994. He served as president of the Senate from 2004 until 2005 and has twice been president of the Independent Democratic Union Party, first from 2006 to 2008, and again since 2015.
Larraín studied at the School of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, where he was a professor and later served as secretary general and vice rector.
In 2004, he received the Gran Cruz Extraordinaria from the President of Paraguay and the Medalla de Honor del Congreso de la República en el Grado de Gran Cruz from the Congress of Peru. In 2005, he recieved the Orden del Congreso de Colombia, en el Grado de Gran Cruz Extraordinaria con Placa de Oro from the Senate of Colombia.
Larraín has joined the Dialogue as a member in 2012.
