On March 24, 2023, Inter-American Dialogue member and former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was sworn in by US Vice President Kamala Harris as the new US Ambassador to India.

Eric Garcetti, the forty-second mayor of Los Angeles, California, is the youngest person and second Mexican-American to serve in the position. In 2015, Garcetti was the first mayor of a major city to pass a $15 minimum wage law. Garcetti also ended the practice of honoring most federal requests to detain arrestees so they can be investigated for deportation, and worked with the federal government to open shelters to house immigrant children detained after crossing the border. At the age of 30, Garcetti was elected to the Los Angeles City Council where he served for 11 years, including as its president until elected mayor in 2013. A Rhodes Scholar and academic, Garcetti was a visiting instructor of International Affairs at the University of Southern California and assistant professor of Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College, prior to entering politics.
Garcetti joined the Dialogue as a Member in 2018.
