Sergio Fajardo is the former governor of Antioquia and the former mayor of Medellín. 

Before entering politics, Fajardo was an academic at Universidad de los Andes. He earned his PhD in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a BSc from Universidad de los Andes. Fajardo is the founder of the Compromiso Ciudadano movement, a group of artists, thinkers, and businessmen pushing for independent and clean politics. He served as mayor of Medellín from 2004 to 2007. During his tenure, he was widely praised for responsible public spending, record social investment, a pronounced decrease in crime, and innovative social inclusion policies. In 2010, 2018, and 2022 he was a candidate for the Colombian presidency. He was elected governor of Antioquia in 2011, serving until 2016. 

He is also subdirector of the newspaper El Colombiano and writes columns in El Mundo and El Espectador, among other publications.

 

Fajardo joined the Dialogue as a Member in 2007.
